Animalistic

Animalistic

I want to try a different theme for my project and want to try playing with the ideas of creating your face into an animal and bring out your inner animal.

In this practice I used a zebra as my inspiration, I didn't want to put my whole face as a zebra just a little section using my supra colours.
I started off by out lining my face in white
supra colour.

I then coloured the outline in white supracolour using a brush, if I did this in the studio I would add more white colour and make it much neater.

I then applied the black over the white, I did use a clean brush but had a problem because of the white base it did change the colour to grey, if I did this in the studio i would make the black lines smaller and and build up the black colour.
After completing this practice I have realised this really doesn't reflect illamasqua as a brand and also it doesn't show my makeup skills. In the final look for my Illamasqua campaign I want to show off my new techniques I have learnt this term and also I want it to reflect Illamsqua and I also want to think of the products that would go with the campaign.

Eyebrow Practice

Eyebrow Practice

Sequins vs paper

Sequins vs Paper

I am experimenting for my look on what materials to use on the eyebrows if I do use any. I am going to practice with two different materials; craft paper or sequins.

Here are the sequins I applied, I decided to use two different colours and two different sizes. I applied the sequins by making sure the eyebrows are clean and then applied a layer of duo glue on to the brow and then stuck them on individually. I do like the look of the sequins and the shape it gives the eyebrows, I am not sure though if it is very illamasqua as putting sequins on eyebrows are getting very generic and illamasqua like to lead the trends.

I then applied sequins to the lips, i think the sequins are too big and that small crystals would be better.

Here I ripped up craft paper and stuck them to my eyebrows using duo glue. When I ripped them up I wanted their to be little pieces of paper coming off as this would create added texture. I really like this look as I think it creates height and texture, this look isn't as harsh as the sequins and I prefer it as it's innovative and I haven't seen it on any other makeup look and as Illamasqua like to be trend setters this could work well for their brand.
I then tried it on my lips and I don't think it worked as well as, I think the paper on the lips look too much and you loose the shape of the lips. This looks much better on the eyebrows.

Pastel Practice

Pastel Practice

I wanted to develop my idea of using pastel colours for my campaign so I did more practices but decided to get rid of the petal as eyelashes.
I started off by creating a white and my palest foundation mix to pale down my face.
The colour that I am pointing to has two layers of the foundation mix.

I then applied a turquoise colour all over the eyelide but left a small gap near the brow.
I used a soft blending brush to apply all over the eyelids.

Lips Practice

Lip Practice

Even though I am really unsure about doing the petal as eyelash idea I wanted to try and create a look for the lips to go with the eyelashes. The two colours for this look are going to be yellow and a light blue/green, I also want to practice with my products with creating the lipstick colours are working out whats better to use foundation or sealer gel.

Here is the light blue colour I created first as the base, I created this using one of my eyeshadow colours and rich liquid white foundation. This mix was very think and didn't give a smooth finish, I think if I mixed it again I would add some primer to the mix.
I then applied yellow on top of the blue to make an ombre effect I used a mix of yellow eyeshadow and  sealer gel, this created a thinner mixture so was easier to apply over a colour. The blue colour doesn't look too bad however in the photo studio I think it would look patchy and too thick.

As you can see as soon as I rubbed my lips together it started to come off because it was so thick.

Petal Practice

Petal Practice

From looking at the images I have collected for generating ideas and from looking at previous Illamasqua collections I want to take my collection off in a different direction. Alot of the collections are very dark and are using dark colours apart from the Toxic Nature collection, this collection has a softer feel and a more doll like using pastel pink on the lips and pastel green on the cheeks as freckles.

I want to using just pale colours for my collection as this would be different for Illamasqua and would be perfect for a spring, summer collection and could be used for eyeshadows, lipsticks, blushers and lipstick.

Here are images from my practices, I wanted to use petals for eyelashes, I wasn't sure what material to use for this for this practice i've used craft paper shown below.

I then cut the petal shapes and stuck them on using duo glue as this is what we've used in class.
Here are my images from my practice, I just practised applying the petals rather than the rest of the makeup.

This practice did not go aswell as I hoped, I think the paper i used was too thick as the shape of the petals weren't as I wished. I then the paper was too heavy as i closed my eye the petals did not move easily or did not look professional. They looked very amateur which is why I will need to rethink this idea.

Beach Waves

Beach Waves

Today we learnt how to create Beach Waves hairstyle, we did this by washing the hair then drying it with setting spray and sea salt spray. After 70% of the water is taken out of the hair then dry the hair with the diffuser it will makeup the hair extra curly. I practised this on my hair which already has alot of volume and curl to it so this hair style worked really will with my hair, I live the style but don't think I'd use it for my Illamsqua shoot as it's not a very strong hair style.

Sealer gel & Foundation

Today I've been experimenting with my new eyeshadow palette and my sealer gel and white foundation. I have never used the Sealer Gel I got in my kit last year but after the Illamasqua visit I wanted to experiment with it.

Sealer Gel

With the sealing gel I used the yellow eyeshadow from my pallet with a small amount of sealing gel. Here is the practice on my hand, the colour works well and is bold I just need to work out how much colour to gel to use because some time it was too watery. This would work well though as an eyeliner or to create a lip liner or lipstick and if you wanted to add any detail to the face.

Fondation and Eyeshadow Mix

Here I used the same colour yellow as above mixed with my rich liquid white foundation. As you can see because of the white foundation the colour has got alot paler so if I wanted it to be the same colour as the sealing gel I would need to add more yellow pigment. This formula is also thicker than the sealing gel so would work more as a base or possibly a lipstick. If I wanted to make it not as thick I would add some satin primer to the mixture.

New Pallete

Eyeshadows

I bought this eyeshadow pallet as I thought it would be really good for the Illamasqua as it is going to be very colourful and I want to experiment with colour. The colours aren't very pigmented compared to the Illamasqua eyeshadows but you can build the colour with them and I want to use them mainly for experimenting and also to mix with sealer gel or with the foundations like Illamasqua did on the visit.

Illamasqua Visit

Ilamasqua Visit

Today was a very exciting day, Illamasqua came to visit us at Uni. I love when they come in because i learn loads of new tips and tricks and I love seeing them work as I'm always in amazement. Mike and Spob came in and spoke to us about Illamasqua as brand and also about the make up awards. We then had a Q&A with Spob while Mika did a demonstration. Here are a couple of images I took from the day.  Can't wait for them to come back again!!

I learnt lots of new things but the biggest thing that I learnt was about creating different foundation colours or lipstick colours, to create the pink bas they use a white skin base foundation mixed with either a pink eyeshadow or blusher which has alot of pigment. I can't wait to go experiment with this and create lots of different colours.

Materials

Materials I've Bought

I went out today and bought a couple of different materials to practice applying to the face

I went and bought different colours of craft paper and then also tissue paper because I was worried the craft paper was going to be too heavy. I am going to experiment with sticking pieces to the face using duo glue.

Contouring and Hi lighting

Contouring and Hi lighitng

Examples of good Contouring and Hi lighting

Here are a couple of examples of celebrities that use good contouring within their makeup
Kim Kardashian is the queen of Hi lighting and contouring

I think that Kim Kardashian is defiantly the queen of contouring and hi lighting the face here as a image she uploaded of how much product her makeup artist uses for getting a really contoured face.

Here is a video tutorial I watched for how to Contour like Kim Kardashian, it's really helpful and does show just how much product you have to apply.

My go at contouring
